The American Society for

Reproductive Immunology

Committee Description

The Engagement & Outreach Committee consists of at least seven members appointed by Council on staggered three-year terms. The Executive Director serves as a non-voting, ex officio member. Representatives from organizations with which ASRI maintains liaison relationships may be appointed as non-voting members as needed.

This committee brings together the Society's efforts in education, public affairs and advocacy, and communications — including website and social media — with the goal of expanding ASRI's engagement with its members and with the broader scientific and public communities.

The role of the committee is to:

  • Develop and oversee educational initiatives and programs in reproductive immunology, including courses, symposia, and other activities that advance scientific knowledge and training;
  • Identify opportunities to highlight ASRI science and promote awareness of reproductive immunology among members, the scientific community, policymakers, and the general public;
  • Monitor and respond to relevant policy, legislative, and regulatory developments that impact ASRI members and the field of reproductive immunology, and coordinate member participation in those efforts;
  • Maintain liaisons with government officials, federal agencies, professional societies, and other like-minded organizations to advance the interests of the field;
  • Strengthen ASRI's digital presence through active management of the website, social media channels, and the ASRI eNews Blog; and
  • Facilitate communication across all ASRI committees to ensure consistent, coordinated messaging to the membership.

Committee Mission

The Engagement & Outreach Committee serves as the central hub for how ASRI communicates, educates, and advocates — both internally with its members and externally with the scientific community, government, and the public.

The committee will:

  1. Educate — Initiate and oversee ASRI educational programming, including courses in reproductive immunology and committee-sponsored symposia at the ASRI Annual Meeting, as well as other activities that foster scientific training and outreach in the life sciences;
  2. Advocate — Lead ASRI's public policy efforts by analyzing federal legislation, regulations, and budgets affecting the field, representing member interests before government officials and professional organizations, and helping members engage their elected representatives and communities; and
  3. Communicate — Use digital and traditional channels to connect members with each other and with Society resources, promote ASRI initiatives, recruit new committee members, and raise broad public awareness of reproductive immunology and ASRI's mission.
